What Are The Minimum Car Insurance Requirements In Georgia?

On Behalf of | Mar 8, 2023 | Uncategorized

\Auto insurance will be crucial if you are involved in a crash. Georgia insists all drivers must have insurance policies that meet certain minimum standards.

They split the minimum coverage you require into three elements:

  • $25,000 in bodily injury coverage per person
  • $50,000 in bodily injury coverage per accident
  • $25,000 in property damage coverage per accident

Remember, these minimums relate to any monies you may need to pay someone else if you injure them in a crash. If you’re injured, you will need to claim against their insurance.

Many people prefer to get more comprehensive coverage

This avoids the chance you become responsible for paying costs above the minimum out of your own pocket. However, this will typically cost you around three times as much, so it’s a tough call.

Can you always claim even if you were partly to blame?

If you are found to be more than 50% to blame, you cannot claim against the other party’s insurance. Provided your level of fault was below that, then you should be able to claim, but the amount you get will be reduced according to how much of the fault is yours. For example, if you were found to be 30% at fault, you’ll only be able to claim 70%.

Car crash injury costs can soon mount up. Therefore, getting legal help will be crucial to show that the other driver was at fault rather than you. You’ll also need to look for ways to recover the full amount of compensation you need, especially if the other party only holds minimal insurance or none at all.
