Defense For Drug Charges

Drug charges are broken up into two categories: misdemeanors and felonies.

Misdemeanor drug charges are handled at the State Court level, and generally involve simple possession charges. Misdemeanor drug charges are not as serious as felony drug charges, but misdemeanor offenses still have the potential to adversely affect your future. Having adequate representation may help you to avoid probation or jail time.

With regard to felony drug charges, you are facing a more serious sentence, and it is important that you consult an attorney immediately. Felony drug charges often involve the possession, distribution, trafficking, and/or manufacturing of marijuana, cocaine, crystal meth, crack cocaine, heroin, and other serious drugs.

When determining the penalties for drug crime convictions, the courts look at the nature of the offense, the type of drugs involved, the quantity of drugs involved, and whether or not the individual has previously been charged with a drug crime.
